Fireflies, Spring Hill: The Decision to Go Online

By Harmony Blake, Owner

As all small business owners know, expect the unexpected! Harmony Blake, owner of Fireflies Boutique in Spring Hill, knows the challenges of being a small business owner and making some hard decisions during these uncertain times. “First, I promised my kids I’d always be a mom first. With all the shutdowns, remote learning, and quarantine, my kids not only suffered the loss of life as they know it, but I was unable to be everything I needed to be in this uncertain time. The Lord promised me that if I put my family before finances, he would always provide. I’m going forward in faith knowing that being a mother is the most important calling I will ever have,” Blake explained. With this in mind, the decision to move Fireflies online was made.

With the trendy pop up shops providing the opportunity for in person shopping, the online boutique gives the chance for the women Fireflies serves through business to reach a broad network. “Who knows the future of small business as we know it, who knows the direction of our country. I am not going to lie, this one sat heavy on my heart and I pray success over the vendors who rely on me for their income. I hold such a responsibility on my shoulders to this community of women who have counted on me for so many years,” Blake described. “This flip in how we do business is a scary leap. I hope this community as well as the world finds our little collection and chooses to shop small.”

The brick and mortar home to the Fireflies Boutique was built in 1840, and over the years it has housed many people, businesses, success, failure, heartache, and love. Its walls tell a story and the grounds where the foundation lays have a history. “She needs a makeover and to be shown the love that I feel she gives to me. She has seen me through some of my proudest moments, as well as some of my deepest loss. In January 2019, I was able to put my name on the deed of this gorgeous home and just 3 days later my dear husband took his last step onto her porch. He passed that day, and these walls saw me through it,” Blake recalled. “These walls watched a community of strangers serve me like I have never seen before. In those moments, my faith was restored. His spirit and laughter echoes within these walls. His passion comes alive when you walk through the front door. Often visitors will comment on the spirit felt in this home and how happy these old walls and floors make them.”

Fireflies successfully moved to the online endeavor in December 2020, giving Blake and her family the time needed to resurrect the beauty of the old home that has served them so well over the years. “I cannot wait to welcome you back inside, maybe a little differently than before, but my home will always be the home of Spring Hill, TN,” Blake concluded with a smile.
