Historic Polk Home Gardens Rainbow Baby Shower

By Kathy Fox

The historic Polk Home gardens are the perfect setting for private weddings and events. The charming yard and spectacular gardens allow guests to design a unique celebration in an intimate space in the heart of downtown Columbia. When Brittney Poynor was planning her baby shower, she wanted a venue that had charm, splendor and was spectacular. Poynor, owner of Lace & Company and Bombshell Beauty, has deep roots in Columbia and was even the 2014 Mule Day Queen. In her mind, there was no question the Polk Home would be the ideal venue for the baby shower to celebrate her incredibly special rainbow baby on the way.

A rainbow baby is an endearing term used to describe children born after a miscarriage, stillbirth or neonatal death, symbolizing a storm’s end. Having a rainbow baby is a time usually met with joy and very mixed emotions. Brittney Poynor and her husband, Nick, found out they were expecting in October 2019. All things were going well, but unfortunately at the 20-week anatomy scan they were given some bad news. Their baby girl had brain development issues and sadly a few weeks later in February 2020, the couple lost her. “Obviously my husband and I were desperately upset, but the Lord had better plans,” Poynor said. “In October 2020, we found out we were pregnant again and the due date was in the same month we were due last time around. It’s a boy this time and we are so ready to celebrate life and our rainbow baby!”

Brittney and Nick celebrated with grandeur hosting a baby shower in the splendor of the Polk Home gardens with 70 family members and guests in attendance. It was a very precious time as the couple rejoiced getting to bring a new baby into this world. “I could not have asked for a better venue. The Polk Home was great to work with as were the other companies. It was magnificent from beginning to end. Danny Holmes Catering provided the food, my mother and I decorated, Taylor and Tate Photography photographed all of our fun pieces, and Copycats Print Services did all these large picture prints for me and the invitations,” Brittney explained. “My baby shower was almost as big as my wedding. It was truly a celebration of life more so than ever just because I was absolutely blessed by my family and friends. I mean I’m still unpacking gifts, but baby Nicholas Brock is ready for his big arrival and so are we.”

While Poynor is on maternity leave with baby Brock, she is very thankful to have been blessed with a great group of employees that are ready to serve each one of her customers.
